CAT by bus
From September 7, 2026, through October 31, 2027, the City Airport Train will operate for 14 months using comfortable premium buses to ensure that transfers between Wien Mitte and the airport remain as convenient and fast as usual during the main line closure.
During this period, a section of the route between Wien Mitte and Rennweg will be closed to all rail traffic due to renovation work. CAT is even offering a special service for its passengers: the frequency of transfers will be increased, with up to five buses running every 12* minutes in each direction per hour. The high-quality Setra coaches are provided by Blaguss Reisen GmbH.
Holders of the Wiener Linien annual pass, the ÖBB Vorteilscard, the KlimaTicket, a student ID or pupils can use the CAT for 7 euros each way; children 15 and under ride for free. Unfortunately, due to logistical reasons, the CAT City Check-In service cannot be offered during the suspension of regular service.
From Wien Mitte/Landstraße (city centre) Marxergasse 1b (direct access through the CAT foyer): first bus 05:30 & last bus 23:15
From Vienna Airport Terminal 3/bus bay 0: first bus 06:10 & last bus 23:37
*7 a.m.-7 p.m., otherwise every 15 minutes

For a smooth journey on the bus
- Luggage: Personal items, handbags and rucksacks may be carried on your lap, provided they do not occupy any empty seats. We kindly ask you to stow trolleys (hand luggage size) in the luggage compartment at the back of the bus; only large suitcases will be loaded by the bus driver. Unfortunately, large items of luggage (skis, surfboards, etc.) and vehicles (bicycles, scooters, etc.) cannot be carried; pushchairs are permitted. We would ask you not to go to the back of the bus to collect your suitcases.
- Tickets: We would ask you to purchase tickets in advance via our website or from the kiosk at the relevant stations or bus stops. (Online tickets are valid for 6 months; tickets from the ticket machine are valid for 30 days).
- Children: Children under the age of 15 travel free of charge.
- Animals: Unfortunately, for safety reasons, it is currently not possible to bring animals on board buses. Only assistance dogs may travel free of charge.
- Concessions: 50% discount for holders of the Wiener Linien annual pass, the ÖBB Vorteilscard, the KlimaTicket or a student ID.
- Eating food on the bus is not permitted. Drinks are only allowed in sealable containers, and the consumption of alcohol is not permitted on board.
- Luggage can be carried on CAT buses without any problems. However, the CAT City Check-In service for luggage is currently suspended – flight check-in and the printing of boarding passes for selected airlines are still available in the CAT foyer.
- Accessibility: We ask passengers with reduced mobility to contact CAT Customer Services on +4312 5250 before travelling.
New trains in November 2027
From November 2027, the City Airport Train (CAT) will set new standards in airport transport: new five-carriage double-decker KISS trains from Stadler will be deployed on the route between Vienna Airport and Vienna city centre. The KISS200 model has been specially designed for high passenger volumes. Its modern and aerodynamic design, spacious interior and high level of innovation make the train ideal for busy express services.
