Navigationspfad: City Check-In > Customs Counter
You can apply for a VAT refund at our customs counter at the City Air Terminal in the "Wien-Mitte" railway station.
Non-residents are entitled to a refund of VAT on purchases over € 75.-, if they are travelling from Vienna directly to a non-EU country. If you are travelling through an EU country (i.e., Vienna-Frankfurt-USA), you must obtain a customs stamp for goods carried in your hand luggage at the last EU stop on your trip (in our example, Frankfurt).
For goods that are packed in your checked luggage (suitcase), you will receive a customs stamp at the City Air Terminal in the "Wien-Mitte" railway station. The first step is to complete the tax cheque that was provided with your purchase. Check in with your airline, then go to the nearby customs counter and request a customs stamp to confirm the export of these goods. You can collect your tax-free rebate in the desired currency at one of the banks or foreign exchange counters in the airport departure area.
If you are transporting these purchases in your hand luggage, you will receive a customs stamp after you leave the passport control area at the airport. A payment office is also located here for your convenience.
